Oct 20, 2017 Where is Update Agent download for Windows 10 Posted before, got one answer that totally messed up my Update history. Been WAITING all week for another answer with several replies from me. To summarize,There is no Windows update agent download for windows 10.The update agent downloads through Windows update and that is the only way.
Windows Update Agent (WUA) updates itself through various means, depending on the version of Windows running on the device. Old versions of WUA may not be able to connect to current update services, may not be compatible with all updates, and may not support all documented APIs. Here is how to insure that WUA is fully updated and compatible.
- For versions of Windows up to Windows 8.1/8/7, the procedure to update the Windows Update Agent & the download links has been mentioned on microsoft.com.This would surely resolve your problem.
- To download and install major Windows updates (the upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, for example), you need to not only have all other Windows updates available for your computer installed but also need to have the latest version of the Windows Update Agent. The Windows Update.
On versions of Windows beginning with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Windows Update Agent (WUA) updates are included in the regular periodic updates to Windows distributed through Windows Update or to Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). You do not need to take any special steps to update WUA on these Windows versions.
On versions of Windows prior to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
WUA automatically updates itself when Automatic Updates connects to Windows Update or to WSUS.
If Automatic Updates has not yet successfully run, it is possible that a device running these Windows versions will be running an older version of WUA that does not support all the documented APIs. If you receive a WU_E_SELFUPDATE_REQUIRED result when you use the WUA API to perform a scan, download, or install, this error tells you that the installed version of WUA is too old to connect to current Windows Update services. You cannot use the normal WUA APIs to update WUA on these operating systems.
A user can manually update WUA to a current version by opening the Windows Update control panel, selecting Check for Updates, then accepting the self-update that appears. Alternately, you can update WUA programmatically.
To programmatically update WUA on versions of Windows prior to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
- Use the WinHTTP APIs to download Wuredist.cab.
- Use the Cryptography Functions to verify that the downloaded copy of Wuredist.cab has a digital signature from Microsoft. If you can't verify the digital signature, stop.
- Use the File Decompression Interface APIs to extract the XML file from Wuredist.cab.
- Use the Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) APIs to load the XML file and locate the WURedist/StandaloneRedist/architecture node for the computer's architecture. For example, for x86, locate the WURedist/StandaloneRedist/architecture node with the name attribute of x86.
- Call IWindowsUpdateAgentInfo::GetInfo to determine the current version of WUA. If IWindowsUpdateAgentInfo::GetInfo returns a version number that is at least as high as the clientVersion attribute in the architecture node you located, stop.
- Use the MSXML APIs to read the downloadUrl attribute from the architecture node that you located. downloadUrl gives you the download URL for the appropriate WUA installer for the computer's architecture.
- Use the WinHTTP APIs to download the appropriate installer.
- Use the CreateProcess function or a similar API to execute the downloaded installer.
Working diligently to see if I can use the Get Windows 10 icon and applet on my Windows 7.1 Ultimate with SP1 system. Microsoft’s first recommendation is to make sure you have the latest updates. Ran the updater and it indicated that I am current. Just a little digging and I became suspicious. My latest update was a few months ago.
Apparently there was an update to the Windows Updater and I missed it. Or it was blocked by the corporate update filters.
How to overcome this? Manually update the Windows updater
To find the most appropriate version for you operating system, Microsoft Support offers “How to update the Windows Update Agent to the Latest Version” (kb949104) [https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949104}.
Flos diner game. The site offers Windows Updaters for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and a Fix it tool for making sure that Windows update is run automatically on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
This will launch MicrosoftFixit.wu.com.Run.exe.
Which in turns runs an automated troubleshooter designed to identify and apply fixes for generic update settings and issues.

Why would you do this???
Well, the freeGet Windows 10 offer will not currently work unless you have the latest Windows updates. AND apparently have automatic update turned on. If you are testing the Windows 10 install process in preparation for the July 29th release, you will need both.

Windows Update Agent For Windows 10
As a secondary update element, you may need to assure that the GWXUX.exe update deployed in May 2015 was also accepted and run on your local system. This update enables Windows 7 with SP1 and Windows 8 to accept the Get Windows 10 tool once deployed. I will touch on this update in a separate blog.
I am still not seeing the Get Windows 10 icon, so on to the next step for me.
